Ever since the idea of the Dhol Effect came about at Taco Bell in 2012, RUDE has been creating and performing dynamic music all over campus and around the East Coast of NJ.
The Dhol is a dynamic percussion instrument, predominantly popular in North India and surrounding areas of Pakistan and Bangladesh. Bigger than a traditional dholak, the dhol has the same barrel shape, one side at a higher pitch than the other. As you go from region to region, variations in the techniques, sticks, and pitches arise. Dhol Effect was founded as a dhol-only group, slowly evolving into the full-fledged band it is today.
